I understand what you're saying and I agree that gay marriage is not a "threat." And I also agree that the quality of marriage (including the divorce rate) hasn't been affected by homosexual relationships or gay marriage.

That being said (you saw that coming didn't you?), I still stand by the concept that it is a bad idea and (more to the point of the above) unnecessary to redefine an insitution older than our or any Constitution in order to accomodate those seeking "equal rights."

I tend to separate from many conservatives on this issue. Do I believe a real marriage can only be between a man and a woman? Yes. I am happy that my church (Roman Catholic) has yet to crumble to the pressure of special interests, such as a segment of Espiscapalians.

However, I believe it is a waste of time for our politicians to even bother debating this. Current problems more important than gay marriage: War on Terror, Iraq, illegal immigration, declining public education, heathcare, tax system, energy dependence, partial-birth abortions being performed.

Is that enough? Let's fix these problems first.

And all this, "Gay marriage takes away the sanctity of marriage" is just crap. The divorce rate in the U.S. is 50%!! This is not the fault of homos. This is the fault of men and women who don't respect the sacrament of marriage and/or each other.

Again, maybe I'm just a bit off the wall here, but I don't think gay marriage is a threat to our country. Private religious organizations still have the right to determine who marries in their churches, and that's good for me.

When you decided to marry, you must be sure about whom will you marry. The person you love or the person who loves you.

check this post

Whom will you marry?
