One of my favorite movie reviewers (Teddy Durgin) said if you made the slow motion in the movie into regular speed, then the movie would last 30 minutes. That's typically a sign of an unimpressive plot.

As far as Iran's response. The Persians aren't the only ones in history to be shown up by small "barbarian hordes." What's the big deal?

I read about Iran's complaints regarding 300. It's pretty stupid, this sort of reaction, but it's also pretty typical. There was a strong backlash by the Jewish community against Mel Gibson's "Passion of the Christ." Before that there was a strong backlash by the Christian community against Martin Scorsese's "The Last Temptation of Christ." Arabs complained about James Cameron's "True Lies" (in it all the Arabs are terrorists). "Borat" offended Kazakstan to the point of an official public government rebuttal. Italian Americans have protested "The Sopranos." The list goes on. The Iranian government's response is no different, no less-intelligent or more stupid than what you usually hear from ethnic groups that are ill-portrayed in films. I can't say I've shaken hands with most of Iran's citizens, but I've met a lot of Iranians out in L.A. and these folks could give a hoot about what "300" may or may not insinuate. If anything they are probably more aware than the average move-goer of how completely idiotic and utterly distorted this film actually is.
