Been saying it for years, but thank you Gideon for re-iterating a worthwhile point, and offering a dissenting Israeli perspective.

Hi, Scottie,
Yes, Israel doesn’t want peace. It’s too lucrative not to have peace. They can’t sell their artichokes in Europe, even at a cheaper price than elsewhere. What else do they have? Olives? Too many olive growers everywhere.

Or transfer of illegal technology? Maybe.

mom, what does the peace issue have to do with artichokes?
cmon lady, you can do better !
they want the settlements, and they want a border that is not consistent with all the relevant UN resolutions ; they want to continue occupying land that is not theirs ; peace and settlements cannot co-exist plain and simple
they have chosen the settlements, and have rejected the arab world’s (saudi initiative) offer of full recognition for 67 borders and dismantling settlement,s, and they will reject musharraf’s offer for full recognition of the entire muslim world’s recognition as well
as long as the us keeps vetoing un will on israel’s behalf , there will be no peace.
my next piece on muckrakerreport, which in the final edit now, discusses these vetoes in detail
should be out this weekend!
i’ll link it when it does

Scottie,
Artichokes are what they export. Duh. Peace would cost them too much. (Who would want to continue subsidizing Israel if it was living in harmony with its neighbors?)

Scottie,
Since you didn’t understand where I am coming from, Israel doesn’t have much except artichokes in the form of foreign exports. Their olives are useless. If they decide to have peace with their neighbors, they lose billions from the U.S. Who can compare artichokes with that?
