Hi,
If Taiwan is establishing a “consular/economic” office in Suriname, it’s probably for economic reasons, mainly those concerning fishing rights. I would say that since Suriname has a Chinese embassy, Suriname, maybe, is playing “both sides” to up the ante for aid.

Many small and poor countries benefit from this kind of dollar diplomacy. I can’t trash Nancy Pelosi too much since she is one of the most fervent backers of an independent Taiwan.

I do think it’s sad that the only European nation that recognizes Taiwan is the Vatican, and that the French war-game with the Chinese off the coast of Taiwan. One of the travesties of the Carter administration was the Taiwan Relations Act.
