Mexico President: Senate Made Grave Error
MEXICO CITY (AP) — The U.S. Senate made a grave error by failing to pass legislation that would have led to the legalization of millions of unlawful immigrants, Mexican President Felipe Calderon said Thursday. The bill’s collapse will close the door to legal immigration, encourage continued illegal immigration and human rights violations and decrease security on both sides of the border, Calderon said.He added that the measure would have been a “sensible, rational, legal solution to the immigration problem,” and its failure will hurt the competitiveness of both the U.S. and Mexico.

Illegal Immigrants Targeted By States
Impasse on Hill Spurs New Laws

Frustrated with Congress’s inability to pass an immigration overhaul bill, state legislatures are considering or enacting a record number of strongly worded proposals targeting illegal immigrants.
By the time most legislatures adjourned in May, at least 1,100 immigration bills had been submitted by lawmakers, more than double last year’s record total, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures. This year’s total is expected to grow as the issue continues to dominate debate in statehouses still in session.

Poultry workers test positive for TB
131 at Greenville plant show signs of exposure after active case found

State health officials tested 286 employees at a Greenville poultry-processing plant for tuberculosis after a case of TB was reported there, and nearly half had a positive skin test.
The investigation at Columbia Farms began a week ago after tests on the first individual confirmed active TB, said Thom Berry, spokesman for the state Department of Health and Environmental Control.
The positive skin tests on 131 of the workers means they were exposed to TB sometime in their lives, not that they have active disease, he said.
