Don’t Mourn Brown v. Board of Education
By JUAN WILLIAMS Published: June 29, 2007 Washington

LET us now praise the Brown decision. Let us now bury the Brown decision.
With yesterday’s Supreme Court ruling ending the use of voluntary schemes to create racial balance among students, it is time to acknowledge that Brown’s time has passed. It is worthy of a send-off with fanfare for setting off the civil rights movement and inspiring social progress for women, gays and the poor. But the decision in Brown v. Board of Education that focused on outlawing segregated schools as unconstitutional is now out of step with American political and social realities.
Desegregation does not speak to dropout rates that hover near 50 percent for black and Hispanic high school students. It does not equip society to address the so-called achievement gap between black and white students that mocks Brown’s promise of equal educational opportunity.
And the fact is, during the last 20 years, with Brown in full force, America’s public schools have been growing more segregated — even as the nation has become more racially diverse. In 2001, the National Center for Education Statistics reported that the average white student attends a school that is 80 percent white, while 70 percent of black students attend schools where nearly two-thirds of students are black and Hispanic.

Mexico President: Senate Made Grave Error
MEXICO CITY (AP) — The U.S. Senate made a grave error by failing to pass legislation that would have led to the legalization of millions of unlawful immigrants, Mexican President Felipe Calderon said Thursday. The bill’s collapse will close the door to legal immigration, encourage continued illegal immigration and human rights violations and decrease security on both sides of the border, Calderon said.He added that the measure would have been a “sensible, rational, legal solution to the immigration problem,” and its failure will hurt the competitiveness of both the U.S. and Mexico.

Terror-linked group applauds Bush announcement

President appoints envoy to Organization of the Islamic Conference

The Council on American-Islamic Relations – recently linked to a plot to fund the terrorist group Hamas – said it welcomed an announcement yesterday by President Bush to name a special envoy to the Organization of the Islamic Conference, the international body of 57 Muslim-majority nations.
Bush made the announcement at an event marking the 50th anniversary of the Islamic Center of Washington, the mosque he visited after the 9/11 terror attacks.
As WND reported earlier this month, federal prosecutors named CAIR, along with two other prominent U.S. Islamic groups, as an “unindicted co-conspirator” in a plot with five officials of the defunct Holy Land Foundation for Relief and Development, who go on trial July 16 in Dallas.
Bush explained yesterday the special envoy “will listen to and learn from representatives from Muslim states and will share with them America’s views and values.”

I thank God every day that O’Connor, who is in my opinion the absolute worst Justice ever, has retired.

Supreme Court rejects school race plans
WASHINGTON - The Supreme Court on Thursday rejected public school assignment plans that take account of students’ race.
The decision in cases affecting schools in Louisville, Ky., and Seattle could imperil similar plans in hundreds of districts nationwide, and it leaves public school systems with a limited arsenal to maintain racial diversity.
The court split, 5-4, with Chief Justice John Roberts announcing the court’s judgment. Justice Stephen Breyer wrote a dissent that was joined by the court’s other three liberals.

Welcome to the Cult of Multiculturalism. Vote Sticky Rice!

Chinese-Language Ballots Pose ‘Sticky’ Problem
Mitt Romney’s been called many things as he runs for president, but chances are “Sticky Rice” isn’t one of them.
That’s how his name might be read on some Massachusetts ballots, according to state Secretary William Galvin.
Galvin says the federal Justice Department is pressuring Boston election officials to translate candidates’ names into Chinese characters in precincts with prominent Chinese-speaking populations.

So Mitt Romney could be read as “Sticky Rice” or “Uncooked Rice.” Fred Thompson might be read as “Virtue Soup.” And Barack Obama could be read as “Oh Bus Horse.”
Galvin’s own name could be read at least two different ways, as “High Prominent Noble Educated” or “Stick Mosquito.”
But perhaps the most perplexing translation would be for Boston Mayor Thomas Menino’s name, which could be read as “Sun Moon Rainbow Farmer” or “Imbecile,” or “Barbarian Mud No Mind of His Own.”
