This is an article from Feb. 28th about the policies for closing schools. With all due respect to Mr. Byard, et al., I’m just having trouble buying the whole:

Administration takes part in conference calls with other school systems, local governments and the federal government to see what they are doing, before it decides whether or not to close schools. Administrators drive on roads after midnight and check with local law enforcement about road conditions.

“The primary concern is safety,” Byard said. “Students and staff have to be on the road very, very early. Main roads might be clear, but side streets might be dangerous.”

I’m sort of confused, here. At no point over the last 24 hours did I or anyone I know experience challenges on the road. There’s a chance that I’m out of touch with Western Loudoun, so someone correct me if I’m just way off. What’s missing from this picture is that licensed daycare providers are forced to close on these days when the County Schools are closed, which means people’s jobs are put on hold when the School System gets a little trigger happy.

I disagree with the door-to-door responsibility. In states where they get REAL snow the philosophy is typically, “If roads are not safe, then the school buses might not run, but if you can get your kids to the schools, then there will be teachers there to educate your kids.”
